How fragile is the glass?  Generally, stained glass is thicker and more durable than regular glass. ZephyrSymphony wind chimes have withstood a variety of extreme weather conditions including microburst activity and Santa Ana winds. One gentleman wrote:

"I have mine hanging on the front porch...right where they get blasted by the snow, rain and wind...I've seen them swing sideways from the driving winds and rain, they stood up to driving snow and -1 degree temperature. The glass stood up to that harsh abuse with no chips or problems at all."

There are two conditions under which breakage has been reported: dropping the wind chime on a cement patio and placing the wind chime where the glass hits against something hard such as the side of a house. There may be other conditions but none have been reported since 1998 when ZephyrSymphony wind chimes were first available for sale.

Can you describe the sound of a glass wind chime?  Each wind chime has a unique sound given the thickness, density, and size of the glass and the individual glass chimes - but they all share an airy "tinkling" glass sound.

Do you use fishing line to string the glass chimes?   No. UV rays will reportedly degrade nylon line over time. We don't know how long it takes but we have become concerned enough about it to design a decorative stringing technique using copper jewelry wire. A close-up photo can be found here. Each wind chime is constructed entirely of metal and glass, and is designed to last for years.

How do you ship them?  Each glass chime is individually wrapped to protect the glass during unpredictable handling on its journey. Large quantities of packing peanuts are then used to support the wind chime and provide additional cushioning in a sturdy mailing box. All wind chimes are shipped USPS Priority Mail.

What forms of payment are accepted?  For customers who wish to use a credit card, Paypal is accepted provided the wind chime is being shipping to a confirmed address. We also accept personal checks, postal money orders, and cashier's checks. Personal checks require ten (10) working days to clear before the wind chime is shipped. Cash by mail is not recommended but it is accepted. For more information about ordering and payment, please refer to this page.
